winter walks

Barely a week into the new year, I bundled up my three boys to go for a walk to a coffee shop only a half a mile away, incentivizing them to brave the cold with treats. This well-intentioned trip turned into an expedition that lasted an hour and a half, abandoning a bike halfway through, and my 3 year old informing me that “we shouldn’t go anywhere again, because it’s too cold.” Alright buddy, noted.

A couple of days later though, we geared up with snow pants and headed to a forest preserve, where the boys climbed fallen tree trunks, teetered precariously close to a frozen pond, and discovered all kinds of tracks to follow. Turns out we can enjoy winter outdoors. We’re finding out what works for us. Trying to make the best of this weather and seeing the bright spots, because they are there. And of course, sometimes you fail, and it’s kind of humorous in hindsight.

We are otherwise enjoying afternoons indoors, reading lots of books, which is probably my favorite habit the whole family formed during quarantine, and still staying plenty entertained with Christmas presents. We are about to start Prince Caspian after finishing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in December!

How about you? Do you find you’re naturally someone who thrives in the winter or do you need to give yourself a little push?

And hey…if you’re interested in chatting at all about preserving your family memories through a lifestyle family session, I’d absolutely love to start a conversation! Email me here!

Take care and stay warm.
