Why I love in home family sessions

In case you hadn’t noticed around here, I’ve gotten really into in home family portraits.

For me, they just makes sense. They mesh the parts that really matter to me in life: family, space, story.

They feel authentic and beautiful and I love seeing the way these pieces come together to tell your family’s own narrative. If you have been on the fence about whether you should have an in home family session or something outdoors, here are a few reasons why in home sessions are my absolute favorite!

And before you tell me your home is not photo worthy…trust me, we make it work. Besides, all you really need is one good window ;)

1. I believe that family and the space you have created to inhabit are deeply personal. The two intertwined tell the most beautiful story of your life. I want to celebrate YOUR story. The one you work so hard day in and day out to create. The one where messes and fights happen, but where make ups and kitchen dances also do. This is your home. It’s where the love happens. I want to be there documenting all of that for you to look back on and see in years to come, and say, wow….we really made a pretty amazing life together.

2. They are unique. After all, isn’t your family unlike anyone else’s? I mean, really…why should your photos look like any other family when you have your own vibrant, unique story happening right under your roof every day?

3. Your kids have a chance to act like themselves and be kids for their photos. And that is what I am after. I really am not after cheesy family photos. There. I said it. I don’t want everyone looking perfect, because that’s not what real life is! Sure, I will always get that framer photo for grandma, and you, because…posterity. But let’s celebrate together the crazy season you’re in! Your kids are kids, they love to paint on themselves and run through sprinklers and play, don’t you want to remember those beautiful moments? I know I do!
