“Sunday Suppers” book review

Karen Mordechai’s book Sunday Suppers is really unlike any other cookbook I have owned.

With section titles like camping, city picnic, and upstate with friends, she reminds you that a meal is about an experience that doesn’t have to be rushed. It’s such a breath of fresh air really, in today’s age where food is all about take-out and instant gratification. Mordechai’s approach is slow and thoughtful.

Which is exactly why the book is on my nightstand. I’ve been enjoying going through it slowly, revisiting certain photographs and chapters. It’s like the whole book has a calming effect on me, reminding me of the pace of life I want to live.

The photographs are of course, absolutely stunning, and give off a certain nostalgia of life being lived around meals.

The recipes themselves range from very easy (perfectly scrambled eggs, p. 19) to moderate (buttermilk fried chicken, p. 89), but her explanations are so thorough and photographs helpful that if you’re willing, you should be able to make almost anything in the book!

I’m so thankful to have this book as a keepsake on my shelf for years to come.
