I believe one of the most beautiful gifts we can give another person is to see them.
You know what I mean? Let them know they are visible.
It’s far too easy to look past someone, to turn away, or even ignore. Especially when you don’t understand their life or share their point of view. It’s hard to SEE. It takes work sometimes.
I think motherhood is often this way. It is mostly invisible work. Nobody really sees the number of dirty diapers, bandaged knees, kissed foreheads, meals made.
In creating this portrait series, I was processing through many of the times in my life where I have not felt truly visible, and how I wanted to change that narrative for other women, who often feel like they struggle in the shadows.
I wanted to capture their stories in a way that shed some light on the beauty on their everyday work. Of course there is so much more to be said, but my hope was to create a mirror for these women, for them to know they are seen, and for others to have the opportunity to see them as well.
Hey, if you want photos of you and your family that capture you all in a way that doesn’t just remind you what you look like, but what your family feels like, send me an email. I’d love to chat with you! In the mean time, if you want to see some more lovely family sessions, you might enjoy this post or this one.
