Photographs that help you remember what it felt like

This one thing in my home that makes me smile every day

This gallery wall brings me more joy than I knew was possible from photos, which is saying something coming from a photographer!

We had had a picture ledge up for a couple of years as temporary decoration – the kind of thing you put up so that you’re not staring at a blank wall, but also the kind of thing that you squint at every time you look at it — because you know something is not quite right.

So when my boys accidentally yanked the ledge out of the wall from playing close to it (yes, this is my life), it gave me the nudge to put up something that I’d want to look at everyday.

Now, I legitimately stop and look at this wall multiple times a day and just smile. It’s a mix of some of my favorite film photos taken in 2020, and just a reminder that this really simple life we’re living is actually quite beautiful. I even catch my kids just stopping and noticing it throughout their day, and I can’t help but wonder what they’re thinking as they see those memories.

Seeing the power of print first hand is why I’m SO thrilled to announce that this year, I’m doing things a bit differently with my family photography sessions. Every session with me will give you the option to purchase a collection which includes a substantial print credit, so you can PRINT your photos!

It’s so easy to forget this, what with this digital age we’re living in:

this is the way photos were meant to be enjoyed!

If you want to learn more about what I’m offering with my family sessions this year, I’d be thrilled to chat with you! Send me an email here to start the conversation!

winter walks

Barely a week into the new year, I bundled up my three boys to go for a walk to a coffee shop only a half a mile away, incentivizing them to brave the cold with treats. This well-intentioned trip turned into an expedition that lasted an hour and a half, abandoning a bike halfway through, and my 3 year old informing me that “we shouldn’t go anywhere again, because it’s too cold.” Alright buddy, noted.

A couple of days later though, we geared up with snow pants and headed to a forest preserve, where the boys climbed fallen tree trunks, teetered precariously close to a frozen pond, and discovered all kinds of tracks to follow. Turns out we can enjoy winter outdoors. We’re finding out what works for us. Trying to make the best of this weather and seeing the bright spots, because they are there. And of course, sometimes you fail, and it’s kind of humorous in hindsight.

We are otherwise enjoying afternoons indoors, reading lots of books, which is probably my favorite habit the whole family formed during quarantine, and still staying plenty entertained with Christmas presents. We are about to start Prince Caspian after finishing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in December!

How about you? Do you find you’re naturally someone who thrives in the winter or do you need to give yourself a little push?

And hey…if you’re interested in chatting at all about preserving your family memories through a lifestyle family session, I’d absolutely love to start a conversation! Email me here!

Take care and stay warm.

    film diaries | summer 2020

Yes, my film photos have been out of order on the blog. Leave that to me falling behind on my blogging goals for the year, and totally NOT sharing these film images every few months like I’d hoped, but then realizing that these images from the summer were just too good and brought me so much joy that I couldn’t NOT share them, so here they are. I can’t really stop waxing poetic all the joy that shooting film has brought me, so I’ll do it again one more time. The ability to freeze time but then also surprise myself while doing it, has been such a gift.

    film diaries | July-Sept

Film has given me the gift of realizing this life we are living is in fact, so beautiful. Every couple of months, I can stop and reminisce on moments I forgot happened. So grateful to get to relive these.
