Bright and Colorful Home Tour from Champaign, Illinois

Champaign, IL House Tour by Jasmine Nicole Photo -46This home tour is extra special to me because Doug and Cara are dear old college friends. I lived with Cara for one semester, spending many late nights reading in her attic space while she worked on art projects, and allowing her to let me get hooked onto CSI, an adiction I have since broken, thank you very much. We had the joy of standing in one anothers’ weddings! So you would think that I had seen this house sometime in the three years they’ve lived here, but somehow, between moving across the country and getting married…it just hadn’t happened! Naturally, with this being my first time at her uniquely crafted home, I had to document it. Places // New Mexico, here and there

0pulley_0pulley-R1-E016Shortly after we moved from New Mexico to Washington (now just six months ago), I had great plans of making a calendar including some of my favorite photos from my time in New Mexico. While the calendar never came to fruition, that’s originally how this collection of images came to be grouped together. I still love these photos, and how they represent what New Mexico is to me, so I decided they needed to be shared.

Fun fact, these photos are a mix between film, digital, and iphone. Can you tell which is which? Places // Molokini Crater with Four Winds Tours in Maui, Hawaii

One of our favorite parts of Maui was the snorkeling out at Molokini Crater, which is literally a giant crater in the middle of the ocean. Yes, where sharks live.

      photo-1

Boat tour companies take you out there (it’s about an hour ride if that gives you an idea how far it is from shore) and you snorkel for a couple hours.  I was pretty sure I’d stay on the boat and not get in the water. Not only does it terrify me when I am in the ocean and can’t feel the sand under my feet (who knows what is swimming around my legs!) I also just never really understood the whole snorkeling thing. You mean you just swim around with goggles and basically look at coral and little fish swimming around? That’s cool, I guess?

Well fortunately our boat had a little glass bottom section so I scoped that out once we “parked.” The water was super clear and to my great delight, I didn’t see anything that resembled that giant gilled sea monster. I don’t know what came over me but I decided to check out the scene and went in! Turns out snorkeling is pretty rad. It totally depends on where you go though. I can see why the crater is such a hot spot. It’s essentially a marine sanctuary, with tons of fish to see. I know, that still sounds so lame, but I have photos to prove it wasn’t!

Sorry there aren’t any photos of me. I just don’t think the world is ready for the coolness that is me and my snorkel gear.

Side note: do you think fish compare themselves? Some of them are so beautiful and unique, and some are just weird and scary looking. I can’t believe I just said that, but I was seriously wondering.

One more side note: We went with the tour company Four Winds Maui, and I highly recommend them! They are a great family owned company that only has two boats, so they really focus on their guests. They provide lunch and have other options on the boat like the glass bottom, and little mini floating boats with plastic view finders for kids. They even rented out water cameras which was worth it since I didn’t have anything of my own to capture this all with. And the captain was from Chicago! Bonus. He had moved to Maui about 25 years ago and was just such a great guy. You could tell everyone on the boat really loved their job

Places // Maui, Hawaii Travel Photography

maui travel photography jasmine nicole photo -1This May, my husband and I were able to go to Maui, Hawaii for vacation. Jason had the best time, because he could speak English. Harder to do on our past vacations in Jamaica and Mexico. But no really, the beaches were amazing, people were welcoming and oh so hospitable, and the food. The food was, well, words won’t describe. Everywhere we went to eat was better than the last. I think that’s kind of just the Hawaii way. Food is done fresh and right. There’s a photo of a burger here that we had at a place in Lahaina, north of where we stayed (South Kihei), and we seriously talked about that place multiple times throughout the week, only half joking that we should do the 40 minute drive to have another one of their burgers.

        Trip highlights:

        -Beach time everyday

-Road to Hana (somehow it took us 8 hours just driving, this isn’t normal????) But my favorite spots on the road to Hana were probably the black sand beach and the Seven Sacred Pools at the very end. Too bad we were too exhausted to even get in the water by that point.

-That burger in Lahaina. I mean it. Check out Cool Cats Diner.

        – Molokini Crater. I’ve shared those photos here because they deserve their own post.

Places // White Sands, New Mexico

White Sands New Mexico Travel Photography Jasmine Pulley -1 I lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico from August of 2011 to December of 2013. I knew very little of the Land of Enchantment most of my life, and now I can’t believe I was fortunate enough to have experienced first hand one of the most remarkable places in the country. New Mexico truly is a well kept secret. However, during my time there, I never made it down to this amazing landmark, the White Sands National Monument. On a recent work trip back to New Mexico, I planned a little day trip with some friends. The 6 hour round trip in one day to get here? Totally worth it.
